The District Park has seen an exceptional level of use this year, as a welcome way to enjoy some time outside during lockdown. The area was enhanced last summer with the new ‘trim trail’, and when this has been possible, has been enjoyed by many.
Unfortunately, there have been occasions where late night use of the park has escalated to antisocial behaviour. This has caused disruption to local residents, left the park damaged from bonfires, and required a significant litter picking effort to clear up.
Fortunately, action was swiftly taken on this issue, with local Councillors working with both NHDC officers and the local police to address the problem. Our Councillor George Davies had this to say about the measures taken “I was highly impressed with the responsiveness of the local police and NHDC once alerted to the issue. Police were able to issue a dispersal order and break up the worst of the groups on several occasions, until these excessive groups stopped congregating out of hours. The Council were able to rapidly install a CCTV camera to observe the entrance, repair the sabotaged entrance gate to allow the park to close as intended, and install improved bins and signage within the park to combat the litter issue.
I am extremely grateful to all involved with this effort to protect this important community area.”
